Character: Ji-li's Mother
Student Name: Siddhant Talwar

1. Question: Why did the police lock your husband up?

Answer:
They locked him up because he wasn't ready to confess that he listened to foreign radio although he didn't do anything. And they also accused of him being a counterrevolutionary and also for creating revolutionary ties. This was stated on pg # 181-183 in the Red Scarf Girl.

2. Question: What did you want to know about your husband when he never came back (Ji-li's father)?

Answer: I wanted to know about what happened to my husband and I also wanted to know why was Ji-li's dad in prison. I wasn’t having a good feeling. I thought he was living in bad conditions, not eating well, is he troubled from the struggle meetings he had to face and I was wondering why his salary got cut to the half he had before? Or did he become prisoner because he was the son of a landlord. Talking about landlord’s my daughter hasn’t looked her grandfather’s face and nor have I, so why is her class status still thought of being a black. If you check my husbands work unit you can check that we are not blacks. This was stated on Page #182 in the Red scarf girl.

3. Question: Under communism everyone should be treated equally. Does Mao treat everyone equally, in your experience?

Answer: No, this can't be true. A person who actually sends his loyal people (communism says every body is equal) to throughout China for finding people who aren’t following communism rules, while he is breaking them. This was stated on pg.134 I the Red Scrf Girl .My husband wasn’t listening to foreign radio, and if he was what is the big deal I mean wouldn’t you get communication with other countries in the world instead of the closest on The Soviet Union.

4. How did you feel when your husband was free of the accuse of listening to foreign radio?

Answer: I was really nervous so I got sick but after hearing that my husband has been freed from the accuse I felt a lot better. Well I got confused when they took my husband to the jail because he was listening to the radio but in real he wasn’t. I was really scared what will they do with him and even my children and my mother in law got scared. My daughter Ji Li had to face many problems to go and meet her dad like people wouldn’t let her go in only rarely they would let her go in and meet her dad and give her dad what I gave him like clothes and food. This was stated on pg.187 in the Red Scarf Girl. This is what I say my honor.

Four Olds need to be destroyed because: China would become a strong socialist country if the four olds are destroyed. (Glossary and pg 21)

Prosperity: Prosperity means to be successful, dominating in the world and wealthy. In this book (page 21) there is a market called The Great Prosperity Market and the sign had to be destroyed because the word prosperity was in it. Mao says “that if you are prosperous, than you are bourgeois”.

People are using the Da-zi-bao to actually humiliate people throught handwritten posters.

Jiang-Xi-Wen is a very close aunt of Ji- Li.

JI-LI hangs a da-zi-bao on her house because she is accused to be a rightist and They have a da-zi-bao because Yin-Lan-Lan and Du Hai wrote that teacher Ke and Jiang Ji-Li have a realationship going on.(pg.49)

THE FLEX DAY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

5. What do you think the level of safety is here? What makes you think this?

I think The Garment Factory has a very safe area because they are in a place were there are people don't often go plus they had very strong and very intelligent gate keepers. I got to know this when we came the gate keeper asked me which school I was from and when I said "American International School of Dhaka" then they understood I was from the school. Though I was feeling a little unsafe because they always took me to a place where nobody was their but I refused to go with them because I felt a little uncomfortable. I think there was a lot of space in the room where the clothes are made in and where machines are kept and, there is a lot of space for people to walk around without touching their equipment(s). In the Up2Date Apparels had a little less space than the factory, but it was more organized than the factory because their thinking was higher than the factory people. This doesn’t mean that they weren’t that smart. It means that they were experts at their jobs but they weren’t educated for that work. Though let me come back to the topic about safety. The Up2Date Apparels weren’t that safe because there weren’t many people for gate keeping. The place was very small, but they did not have machines because they are not applicable in an Import-Export job. Thus, they do have some people who make some samples for their customers. Well, this is what I think that half of our trip was safe and half was unsafe.

2 observations I made are I noticed people wearing masks and wearing caps for their safety from dust and germs floating in the air.
Another observation I made was that they used very complicated machines, so that would be a little unsafe.

2 question I had was:
How much money do these people get in 1 month?
&
How far are their houses from the factory or the Up2date Apparels.

Elliots Expose!!!!!!!

Blog response instructions:
• Answer the questions in complete sentences and use proper English (restrain from using MSN chat style of writing).
• Use evidence from the novel to support your answer and include page numbers.
• When commenting to your peers, be respectful in your language and about their responses. It is okay to disagree, but do it in a polite manner.

When Elliot writes about his experience with the Jock Rots and sends it out over the Kid Net, he includes the following quote in his letter.

"I think people ought to realize that stuff like this goes on every day…The rest of you are all part of it-because you let it go on and maybe you think it's funny, or you think it only happens to geeky outsiders and kids who are smaller or fatter or skinnier or don't have so many friends or so much money as you. So tell me-what happens when you don't have so many friends one day, or you don't have so much money, or something bad happens to you?" (91-92)

Blog Question:
What is the message is he trying to get across to his classmates? (6pts)

Elliot is trying to say that even if you aren’t the one bullying someone you still are doing a sin. That is by letting the bullying carry on and not stopping it yourself or getting someone else to stop it (Bystander). He also tries to convey the message that you should not do bully because it does not feel nice to the victim. No matter how funny it is to you it hurts others from the inside. You should think about that what if one day you are in that position where you are being bullied and how that would then feel to you. Another expression Eliot tried sending through is that being a bystander who does nothing to put an end to the bullying is also known as a bully in other words. He even tried to say that from the inside we are all humans no matter how small or tall you are. If you are fat or friendless we are all the same. In other words we should now judge others by the amount of money they have or the size they are, we should judge them by their personality and acts. Like on page 91-92 Elliot sends the message to everyone after the bullying incident with the Jock Rots in The Revealers and it says you shouldn't let the bullying incidents happen. You should do something to stop people from bullying people and I think that he wants to do something that can change the victims life in Darkland Middle School. THIS IS THE MESSAGE HE WANTS TO TELL EVERYONE. STOP BULLYING!!!!!!!!!

Blog Role Reversal

Blog Question: After the Bully Lab was renamed, The Revealers, and the stories of the three Dark land students were released and well received by the student body, Elliot wanted to publish Russell’s narrative about Richie punching Russell in the face.

1) Why was Russell so opposed to the idea (pg. 110)? Explain. (4 pts)

Ans 1) Russel was so opposed to the big idea because Russel did not want him to get beaten up again like he did on pg.44 and the part when he poured root bear on him. When Burke and Blachette where putting things in Elliot's bag and when they threw him over the bridge those incidents which happened with Elliot affected his response to Richie to but even though Richie was acting like a bully he also helped Russel and he was not like Blachette or Burke.

2) What is happening to the relationship between Russell and Richie. (3 pts)
Ans 2) The relationship between Russel and Richie was getting bad but interesting because as we go on with the story we got to know why he was angry at Russel. On pg. 15 he was starting to show him that he is targeting him for this year after-school and this went on up till the punch on pg. 44. After some time in the book the relationship got better. The relationship turned into some kind of helping but Richie still did not stop bullying Russel. I think sooner or later in the book Richie and Russel will be friends because there relationship is getting better.

3) Two Peer Comments (4 pts each)
